"Couple opens gym for clients interested in healthy living"

Kim and Paul Smith have worked as personal trainers for years, teaching their clients the
ins and outs of good nutrition as well as how to build muscle definition and tone.  A healthy
lifestyle is not just something they teach to their clients, it is the way they live their lives.
The couple wants to share more with the community so they opened Monster Gym at the
front of Kingwood in January.

“We opened Monster Gym to appeal to customers who are more serious about working
out. Everyone who comes into our gym knows the owners and it is a very personable
place,” Paul said. “We work out with them, personal train and help them with their nutrition.”

Monster Gym features a variety of weightlifting equipment, cardio equipment, sports agility
training, women’s Hardbody Boot Camp classes, body sculpting and an area where
athletes can practice indoors for baseball or softball.  The walls of the gym have spray
painted messages from guests who work out at the gym that focus on motivating
themselves and others to train and work hard. It is their own way to add a personal touch
to the gym.

“We wanted to open Monster Gym to reach more of the market. We cater to everyone
from body builders, figure competitors, power lifters, and athletes as well as others who
are willing to work hard and are serious about results,” Kim said.

Monster Gym has batting cages for baseball and softball training and cages are available
for rental by parents or coaches who would like additional training.  Monster Gym is the
first Monster Energy Drink showcase gym in the United States, which means it will have its
lobby renovated by the energy drink company to feature the company’s merchandise and
there will be a machine to sell the popular drink.

“We are not your average Kingwood gym. We focus on full-body wellness and give each of
our clients personal attention,” Paul said. “We have clients who will text us from a
restaurant to ask what they can eat that is healthy or from a grocery store and ask about
healthy options.”

Additionally, Monster Gym has a sports therapist, Bob Garrett, who specializes in sports
massage, stretching to improve flexibility and range of motion, deep tissue massage and
therapeutic massage.  Paul is a body builder while Kim is a figure competitor so they both
know about the hard work and dedication it takes to get there.  The Monster Gym is
planning to have a power-lifting competition March 27 where well-known bench press multi-
record holder Tiny Meeker, who trains at the gym, will be lifting as well as area lifters. The
event is open to the public though there will be small nominal door fee.

“We are looking forward to continuing to grow and encourage everyone to check us out.
We are all about healthy living and working hard to stay in good shape and we incorporate
that in our family,” Paul said. “We work out with everyone and know everyone that walks in
our door.”

Monster Gym is located at 23810 U.S. Highway 59 in Kingwood. For more information, call
